Abstract:
Difficulties such as differences in linguistic structures, the presence of proverbs and poems, the difference between standard and metaphorical/poetic language, the extraordinary eloquence and rhetoric of the text, allusions to Quranic verses and prophetic traditions (peace be upon him and his family) in the hadiths of Nahj al-Balagha, differences in manuscripts, etc., have made the translation of Nahj al-Balagha considered a very difficult task, leading to various translations of Nahj al-Balagha being presented. This issue, while making greater precision of the translator self-evident, necessitates the existence of critique and analysis of Nahj al-Balagha translations. In this writing, a portion of the late Mohammad Dashti's translation of the wisdoms of Nahj al-Balagha has been critiqued in four fields (editing, the art of translation, understanding and interpretation, and correctness and incorrectness) and with sub-topics such as shortcomings, non-adherence to manuscripts, incorrect interpretations, incorrect translation or inadequacy of certain words, obscurity, morphological, syntactic, and rhetorical errors, unfamiliar vocabulary, unnecessary additions and explanations, undesirable editing, and non-adherence to Persian spelling and grammar rules. According to this analytical research, the relative frequency of criticisms regarding Mr. Dashti's translation of the wisdoms of Nahj al-Balagha was mostly related to 'incorrect translation and interpretations', 'shortcomings', 'morphological, syntactic, and rhetorical errors', 'unnecessary additions and explanations', and 'non-adherence to Persian spelling and grammar rules'.
