However, the fact that Iranians have acquired a predominantly negative image at the international level due to Iranophobia promoted by mainly Western media in recent years—which is mixed with storytelling, exaggerations, and distortions of realities—raises the question: what should be done to change these negative views into positive ones, in order to smooth the way for more peace, at least in the Middle East region?
The present article examines the national and religious identities of Iranians throughout history to demonstrate their peacefulness and improve the global outlook toward the people of this land.
Anti-Iranian sentiments, national identity, religious identity, world peace, social media Introduction The present article refers to the subject of the national and religious identities of Iranians and raises the question of whether enmity with Iranians is unavoidable, or whether the people of the world can interact with the people of Iran despite their religious and cultural differences and away from serious problems.
The present study, by examining some cultural and Quranic sources that, before and after the advent of Islam, recommend a peaceful life to the people of Iran, attempts to improve the negative international perspective toward Iranians and to highlight the role of social media in changing these negative views into positive ones, which in turn is a step toward world peace.
The perception of those who believe in the rich ancient culture and civilization of Iran, or those who, according to Iranians, respect Islamic teachings, is that Iranians have lived based on peace and mutual interaction with other nations, even many years after the formation of their civilization or the change of their belief to the religion of Islam.
