This study was done to understand the importance of listening comprehension in foreign
language learning so the teachers have to think about helpful ways to solve students' listening
problems.
As some teachers suppose that listening skill is a simple and common aspect of learning, this
skill has always been ignored by them, thus lots of students face lots of problems in taking
listening tests in the class.
Watching movies can be considered as a useful hobby and the students can use it to improve
their listening skill. As this method is both helpful and attractive, this study investigated
possibility of improving listening skills by watching movies.
To do this investigation, 20 male and 20 female of Pooyesh language institute were chosen
randomly in order to participate in this experimental research. As the Static Group Comparison
Design was used in this study, they were divided into two groups. One group was manipulated
and the method of watching movies was used in it, while in another one it didn’t use. Finally a
test was taken from both groups to evaluate the students’ listening skills.
Also the students’ attitude toward the effect of watching movies on improvement of listening
was considered, so a questionnaire was given to students.
Spss software was used in order to show the result of this study.
