Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate mechanisms and incidence of
sport injuries in premier female handball league. Seventy five players from 5
teams that were participated in premier league (2006-2007) were studied.
The information related to injury were collected by injury report forms
(Fuller et al, 2006 BJSM) that completed by team physician stuffs. Chi
square test was used for analyses. In total 23 injuries were occurred, which
most of them (74%) were occurred in lower limb, followed by upper limb
(13%) and trunk, head and neck (13%). The most common site of injury
was knee (43. 5%) and then ankle (21.7%). About half of injuries were severe
injuries (x*= 5.8, P>0.05). Ratz of contact injuries (69.6%) were more than
noncontact (30.4%) injuries (yx >= 3. 5, P>0.05). The majority of knee and
ankle injuries were occurred via contact mechanism especially by contact to
other players. Circle (34.8%) and then corner (265%) and right and left back
players (21.7%) were more prone to injury (x 2 = 6.34, P>0.05). Circle
players commonly sustained knee and ankle injuries, whereas knee injury
was the most common injury in corner and right and left back players. Most
of the injuries were occurred during landing from jumping (39%), feint and
changing direction (30.4%), and because of pushing by other players
(21.7%) (x? = 11.13, P<0.05). It can concluded that circle, corner and right
and left back players are more prone to knee and ankle injuries, when
performing cutting and landing maneuvers. Therefore, players, coaches,
trainers and medical staff should pay more attention to these factors and take
these into account while they designing preventive injury programs
