Abstract:
Objective: In many manuscripts written in Islamic civilization, we see terms that the audience of the manuscripts understood, but their original meaning has gradually been forgotten or has become an obscure term. One of these terms is Inha’ that is a kind of textual attempt in Islamic civilization. In this article, we will try to describe this term.
Methodology: First, their literal and customary meaning of Inha’ has been analyzed. This analyz is based on Arabic dictionaries as well as uses of the word of Inha’ in ancient Islamic texts in Persian and Arabic. In the second stage, examples of ancient Islamic manuscripts in which the term is used are examined. These manuscripts are generally kept in important centers and libraries in both Iran and Turkey. The analysis of the information obtained from the manuscripts reveals Inha’s meanings and uses in Islamic manuscripts. Our method of study was based on the historical and semantic evolution of the term in manuscripts
Findings: The results of the analysis of ancient manuscripts show that the term Inha’ was originally used to convey the message. The term was gradually used to refer to textual traditions, beginning in about the sixth century AH. The findings of our study show that in the seventh and eighth centuries AH, this term became widespread among Muslim scholars and found different meanings. After the eighth century AH, Inha’ became very popular and became a well-known term, though with different uses, in the field of textual research. In general, the term of Inha’ represents three specific uses: first, the approval of the manuscript; in these cases, Inha’s notes mean that the manuscript has been reviewed. Second means editing the manuscript; in these cases, Inha’s notes means that the person or persons have read and edited the manuscript. The third meaning that is more recent is the concept of description and interpretation of the manuscript text. In these cases, the person who writes the Inha’ note either describes the manuscript himself or states that another person has

described the manuscript.
Conclusion: For editing classical texts one should pay attention to Inha’s notes. These notes can help the researcher understand the value of manuscripts more accurately. Paying attention to the Inha’s can also improve our views on Islamic Codicology. The most important result of this paper is to show how the word of Inha’, as it enters the discourse of codicology and textual criticism, becomes a semantic evolution and gradually becomes ubiquitous
