Abstract:
AbstractObjective: The purpose of this article is to explain the different pricing approaches of life settlements in the secondary market and apply them for pricing of this product in Iranian insurance industry. Methods: Deterministic, probabilistic and stochastic approaches have been used for pricing life settlements in the secondary market for the Iranian insurance industry. For this purpose, Iranian life table, which is applicable since the beginning of 1400, and French life table, which was previously used by Iranian insurance companies, were used. The results obtained, analyzed and compared for people of different ages. Also, the results of the pricing have been compared with the surrender value of the life insurance policy. Results: The research findings for the whole life insurance policy of a 45-year-old person, assuming the insurance policy is sold in the secondary market at the ages of 60, 65, 70, and 75, based on specific physical conditions, indicate that at all these ages, the insurance policy's surrender value is lower than the price calculated based on the probabilistic and stochastic approaches and it is higher than the price calculated based on the deterministic approach. Therefore, based on probabilistic and stochastic approaches, the exchange of life settlements in the secondary market will benefit the insured. In addition, the price of life insurance policies based on deterministic and stochastic approaches using Iranian life table is lower than French life table. This is despite the fact that the price of these life settlements using the probability approach for Iranian life table has been obtained more than French life table. Therefore, using the native life table in the pricing of life settlements based on a probability approach will benefit the policyholder and based on a deterministic and stochastic approach, it will be detrimental to him. Furthermore, the comparison of the findings of the article for Iran and Spain indicates that the price of these life settlements is higher for Spain than for Iran. Conclusion: In order to fulfill the important legal task of the 6th Development Plan in the field of life insurance, it is of particular importance to enter new fields including secondary markets in order to increase the penetration rate of life insurance. The life settlement in the secondary market means the sale of ownership or the transfer of benefits from the insured to an investor, the price of which is calculated in this article. In general, it is necessary to develop regulations and supervision regarding the determination of the assumptions used in the pricing of life settlements. More precisely, to calculate the price of life settlement, it is required to set rules and regulations for determining the adjustment multiplier of the mortality probability in order to take into account the health status of the insured, as well as the method of determining the internal rate of return.
