Abstract:
In this article, the book 'Avicenna and Mystical Allegory' and Henry Corbin's phenomenological discourse on Avicennian wisdom are analyzed and evaluated. Unlike the subjective approaches of most Western Orientalists, Corbin's phenomenological approach in this book can open the door to a fair dialogue between diverse cultures, an intellectual-cultural interaction that will lead to the enrichment of the thought and culture of both parties. For example, in this book, the ground for dialogue between Shiite Illuminationist rationality and Western abstract rationality is provided, and also the comparison between the Eastern Avicennian tradition and the Western Hermetic tradition is made possible; consequently, the influence and impact of Eastern and Western thinkers on each other from the past to the present is examined. Other points that, according to the author of this article, are drawn from Corbin's book include attention to the grounds for dialogue between Western myths and Eastern myths, which leads to greater understanding between Western and Eastern cultures. One of the prominent points of the book is Henry Corbin's extra-religious view on the issue of Imamate in Imami Shiism, which can provide suitable grounds for Shiite researchers to pay worthy attention to a global understanding in intercultural dialogue about their beliefs, so that the correct introduction of their epistemological teachings precludes extremist and incorrect interpretations.
