Dovecotes are amongst the most important Iranian native structures which are associated with agricultural economy. Isfahan province is amongst the areas which played an important role in the background and formation of dovecotes in Iranian native history. Since dovecotes of Golpayegan and Khvansar had not been studied in a historical and archeological point of view، the aim of this research is to clarify the importance of these buildings in cultural field based on political، economic and geographical relations. This study is used the historical texts along with archeological field survey. Aiming to get the above mentioned purposes، 146 dovecotes have been identified in Golpayegan and Khvansar، and then، this assemblage has been studied in terms of architecture، function، age، activity، and settlement and distribution pattern. The results show that most of these dovecotes are assessed along the Golpayegan and Khvansar rivers and generally belong to Qajar era. In terms of typology، these dovecotes had square plan which is different from cylindrical plan of Isfahan dovecotes. Other finding of this research is that dovecotes of Golpayegan and Khvansar had been used such as other dovecotes of Isfahan for production of fertilizer used for strengthening agricultural lands.

Regarding the pigeon towers of Iran, especially Isfahan, studies have been conducted by domestic and foreign researchers; however, due to the significant dispersion and also the different architecture of the pigeon towers of Golpayegan and Khansar, conducting independent research in this field is necessary.
The most important goal of the present research is to investigate the effective factors in the settlement and abandonment of the pigeon towers of Khansar and Golpayegan based on historical and archaeological studies.
The methods employed include: utilizing written heritage and extracting information from ancient agricultural and historical texts, along with archaeological field activities to determine historical and cultural importance, architectural form, the distribution pattern of the pigeon towers, and understanding their current status.
In the field section of the research, to achieve the intended goals and identify cultural artifacts, in addition to intensive investigation in the villages and plains of Golpayegan and Khansar, help was sought from local acquaintances and the elders of each village, and interviews and discussions regarding the mechanism of each pigeon tower were conducted.
Among them, one can mention Morteza Farhadi (1372); in his book titled "A Look at the Importance and History of Iran's Pigeon Towers," in addition to attempting to specify the historical background of pigeon towers in Iran and paying attention to their economic dimensions in the field of agriculture, he has also addressed their cultural and aesthetic dimensions.
