Abstract:
Tamiz is the term used in Arabic & Persian syntax. This term in the older Persian grammar books has been equivalent to Arabic one, but it has gradually been used more for a syntactical role that eliminates ambiguity from the object of the verbs such as knowing, thinking, naming, etc. Now this concept dominates in Persian grammar. It seems that Shariʾat has applied the term for this concept, but some writers have not used it. The first part of this paper is about the term of tamiz & its equivalents, as well as a critical comparison of each. After that we have analyzed the data of a corpus. This corpora consist of 701 sentences and it has gotten from the Advanced Search section of the Dadegan website belong to Dadegan Research Group. According to our research, Among these Persian verbs the verb know, count, call & say have a high frequency in comparison with another verbs. Most of these verbs appear in different valency constructions, but a few of them have one construction, and they always accompany by tamiz. Tamiz usually seems in the form of name phrase and adjective phrase. It often has direct objet, but rarely come with prepositional object. The presence of object in the sentence is necessary in every way, because tamiz exists to explain it. For this reason, the passive form of these verbs don’t have tamiz except the verbs like as be reminisce, be siad & be predicate because they have prepositional object.
