Abstract:
Andree Chedid, francophone writer born in Egypt of Syrian-Lebanese origin, has created works belonging to various literary genres, but almost entirely marked by the physical and psychological effects of war. The exploitation of the theme of war was an opportunity for Chedid to address a deep reflection on the meaning of life and death, and to launch a universal appeal for peace and solidarity, while describing and by denouncing violence and barbarism. This study proposes to analyze the writing of war in Chedidian texts, according to the theory of speech acts, elaborated by John L. Austin, and developed by his disciple John R. Searle. To do this, we first seek to show by what linguistic effects and narrative processes Chedid writes the war (locutionary act). Then, we focus on the intentions and objectives pursued by the writer (illocutionary act). And finally, after having answered the questions of how and why, we approach that of that, in other words, we wonder about the impact of his writings on readers (perlocutionary act). The results of this research show that the acts of communication undertaken by Chedid, through his works on war, allow him to act actively on his readers, leading not only to inspire them but also and above all to make them take a stand against the intolerance and fanaticism, causes of most human conflicts in the world.
