Abstract:
Marc Levy is a contemporary French writer who became famous with his first novel; If Only It Were True...Levy does not see the world as a predetermined whole, with stable and fixed orders, according to him, at any moment the world around us changes, so it is instability that reigns over the world. When the reader begins to read a literary work, he immediately enters the realm of figurativity. In fact, it is thanks to the figures that the world makes sense and speaks to us, and the author uses figures, isotopic repetitions, and fundamental oppositions to make meaning and convey his ideas to the audience. The objective of this research is the semiotic analysis of the figurativity of If Only It Were True...by Levy from a Greimasian-inspired semiotic perspective. The aim of this study therefore consists in explaining, as far as possible, some of the author's ideas from a semiotic angle. Moreover, through this work, we also aim to answer the following question: How do isotopic repetitions and fundamental oppositions form the coherence of Levy's literary text? So this study is an interrogation on the dimension of figurativity, in a semiotic perspective of Greimassian inspiration. This study explores the various levels where the figurative takes shape, is arranged and manifests itself. Applying the theoretical ideas of Greimas related to figurativity, we conclude that Marc Levy has producted meaning in his literary text by transferring some of his ideas such as instability, mobility and metamorphose through meaningful repetitions, fundamental oppositions and axiologised objective and abstract figures and has thus created a coherent text.
