چکیده:
In this article, the criteria for religiousness from the perspective of clergy and academics are examined and compared. The term 'criteria of religiousness' refers to the basis upon which one judges their own religiousness or that of others. Using Weber's view on the relationship between social conditions and religious interpretations, as well as theories of secularization, and considering the social characteristics of the two studied groups—including the greater connection of academics to scientific institutions and modern values—the hypothesis was proposed that clergy and academics have different criteria for judging religiousness; academics place more emphasis on general moral aspects and less emphasis on ritualistic, collective, and Sharia or jurisprudential ethical aspects. Using a questionnaire designed based on a multidimensional model of religiousness, respondents were asked about the importance of various indicators of religiousness dimensions for judging individuals' religiousness. The research findings showed that academics and clergy have different emphases on various dimensions of religiousness within their respective criteria. While from the perspective of the clergy, all dimensions of religiousness were of high and almost equal importance, academics placed special emphasis on general moral aspects.
