چکیده:
Events are considered a destination attraction and one of the key marketing propositions in promoting places to attract increasing numbers of tourists. Therefore, the aim of the present research was to study the causal relationships between the motivations and satisfaction of sports event tourists, considering the mediating role of mental engagement. The research method was descriptive-survey and was conducted in the field. The statistical population consisted of non-Tehrani tourists present in the return matches of Esteghlal and Persepolis cities in the 1395-96 season. Based on the PASS software, a sufficient sample of 382 people was selected using the stratified random sampling method and was also analyzed using Smart PLS 3 software. Based on the research findings regarding the direct, indirect, and significant effects of the research variables, it is suggested to the organizers of sports events that they pay special attention to the psychological aspects of tourists in order to retain and attract tourists to sports events; because their satisfaction is largely dependent on these factors.

A study of determining the causal relationships between motivations and satisfaction of sports event tourists: * The mediating role of mental engagement Erfan Moradi 1, Alireza Elahi 2, Marjan Saffari 3 (Received date: 2017/07/18 – Accepted date: 2018/03/01) Abstract Events are considered an attraction for destinations and one of the key marketing propositions in promoting places to attract an increasing number of tourists.
Therefore, the aim of the present research was to study the determination of causal relationships between motivations and satisfaction of sports event tourists, considering the mediating role of mental engagement.
Regarding the concept of tourist satisfaction, various factors have been considered by different researchers, such that in this regard, one can refer to factors such as motivation 4 (Yoon & Uysal, 2005; Lee, 2009; Kim, 2008; Smith et al 5, 2010) and involvement 6 (Prayag & Ryan 7, 2012; Brown et al 8, 2016; Hwang et al 9, 2005).
Kim (2008) also, in a study focusing on structural equation modeling analysis regarding the relationship between travel pleasure, motivation, engagement, satisfaction, and destination loyalty among a statistical population of student tourists, concluded that all hypotheses of the aforementioned research based on the relationship between variables were confirmed.
This research, which was conducted using the structural equation modeling approach among sports event tourists in Australia by considering variables such as travel motivation, engagement, and destination image, yielded results such as observing a significant difference regarding the consideration of tourist gender in relation to motivational factors such as social perception opportunity, relaxation, experience, knowledge discovery, and learning new cultures.
