چکیده:
This research is an attempt to examine the various methods of passive formation of compound verbs in the Persian language and to introduce Gendercov's semantic theory, namely what is called 'conceptual semantics theory'. The introduction of this semantic theory is intended to subject its foundations to the data of the Persian language to determine whether this theory, as its proposer claims, is universal and capable of explaining the data of the Persian language or not. To this end, the semantic behavior of 22 compound verbs of the Persian language, which are formed by the accompaniment of a non-agentive constituent with the light verb 'andakhtan' (to throw), is examined during the passivization of these verbs. As we will observe, for a group of compound verbs, both syntactic and semantic methods can be utilized. Furthermore, we will see that Gendercov's semantic theory, due to its attention to semantic components and considering them as the unit of semantic analysis, remains unable to explain sentences that are grammatical; therefore, we will argue that if the unit of meaning of the sentence is not considered, semantic analyses will not yield correct results.

Assistant Professor, Department of General Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran Received: 2010/10/17 Accepted: 2011/01/14 Abstract This research is an attempt to investigate the various methods of passivization of compound verbs in the Persian language and to introduce Jackendoff's semantic theory, which is referred to as the "Theory of Conceptual Semantics.
To this end, the semantic behavior of 22 Persian compound verbs, which are constructed by the association of a non-verbal constituent with the light verb "andakhtan" (to throw), is examined during the passivization of these verbs.
3. Research Method In this article, the behavior of 22 compound verbs, in which a non-verbal constituent is combined with the light verb "andakhtan", is examined during the construction of their passive forms.
Another point that seems necessary to mention is that the reason for selecting the light verb "andakhtan" was, firstly, the causative aspect of this verb, and secondly, the fact that the substitution of the said verb with the verb "oftadan", which lacks the causative aspect, creates clear examples of active and passive samples of Persian compound verbs.
5. Conclusion In the present research, the semantic behavior of 22 Persian compound verbs, which were constructed through the association of a non-verbal constituent with the light verb "andakhtan", was investigated during the passivization of these verbs.
