چکیده:
The present research was conducted with the aim of examining the generalizability of the findings of past research in the field of English language teaching. To this end, the key characteristics of participants in quantitative research in the field of English language teaching over the past ten years were analyzed. Preliminary investigations showed that by considering the educational environments and the age of the subjects, participants in past research could be categorized into eleven groups. Then, by determining the share of each of the aforementioned groups in past research, it was determined that more than 60 percent of all previous research has been conducted in university environments and on students. In 20 percent of previous studies, language learners in private language institutes participated as subjects. The share of language learners in middle school, high school, and pre-university levels is only 7 percent of all previous research. Then, by counting some of the possible reasons for the presence or absence of certain groups in previous research, the generalizability of the results of previous research findings has been discussed.
